Do you sometimes kind of sort of hate everything? 

Don’t lie, I’m serious. I mean, don’t you sometimes think about some of the crazy stuff happening in the world and think to yourself: “these MFs must have really totally lost it”? And by "these MFs" you mean EVERYBODY in the whole damn world. 

I hate talking about politics and I hate people that do it too overzealously – if they know so much about politics and they’re clearly not politicians then we should first address the elephant in the room - that they obviously made the wrong career choices, he-he-he. If they know so much about politics then obviously they should be politicians shouldn’t they? 

Every time I turn on the news and see yet another video of that president Skillachi (😊 or whatever his name is, I’m terrible with names) begging the US and the UK, and other NATO countries to start World War III; my blood boils furiously. I’m empathetic and sympathetic about the whole issue but I’m one of those people that always insists on people handling their own beefs – I don’t give a damn who started it or who is ending it using unscrupulous methods, that’s your business. And for the love of God, could somebody please explain to me why in God’s name a country that has had such a formidable adversary on their ass for so long would elect an entertainer to lead them? That's what has really had me scratching my head. Nevertheless, I wish them well. 

Moving on ...

We’ve all been through so much over the past couple of years, and sadly a lot of us, whether it shows or not, have taken psychological blows. It’s important to be sympathetic to the plight of everyone around because you never know if something you say would be the straw that breaks the camel's hump, and send them straight to the nut house, OR to their basement to make a bomb. 

Music is one of those things that always has a place in any human life during difficult times but sadly the mainstream seems to be becoming less diverse by the day. It’s difficult to listen to songs about fantasy love, red bottom shoes, kissing your BFF and liking it, whatever Simon is saying, make up, hair and nails, Maybachs, helicopters, cocaine and all those exciting things that seem so important to kids and young adults today in the middle of a pandemic and a looming world war. But luck is on your side - you’ve discovered independent music and the best place to find it so you are safe, nothing can get you down during these difficult times. 

If you don’t know about Tyler Noel then let me tell you a little bit about her. Hailing from Atlanta, USA, she has made a name for herself as one of the Southeast’s most exciting new R&B artists and has a powerful voice that is guaranteed to set even the most troubled mind free. Her unique songwriting style and ability to write in a very broad variety of contexts has seen to it that her name is cemented in the minds of any and everyone who has ever had the pleasure of listening; a pleasure you are about to have right now, and that you will probably never forget. 

This week, fans got the rare opportunity to see the exciting independent Atlanta star perform live for the first time since lockdowns started back in 2019. During the short but impactful live performance, she reminded fans why they fell in love with her and why they’d missed her so much. Only a snippet of the full performance has been released so far but we'll publish the full video once it becomes available.

If there is anything the music industry has taught us over the years, even as far back as the ’30s when the modern Western music business was born and records replaced sheet music as the core product in the industry; it’s that you can’t keep a good musician down. 

Making a hit record is just as tough as it is to make a living from music, but you can’t have one without the other and they are both pretty darn exhausting tasks to pursue at the same time no matter how amazing you are at multitasking, time management, anger management and pretending you haven't slept in 24 hours. Some artists make it look easier than others but in reality, every artist has his trials and tribulations. So don’t scratch your head trying to figure out why your favorite country or pop artist has started hanging out with rappers and is now 420 friendly and twerking; or why Kanye West makes shoes that look like balled up homework or old chewing gum wrapped around peoples’ feet and thinks they are cool; or why Wiz Khalifa smokes so much weed you’d start to wonder whether putting both hands around his own neck and choking himself intermittently while eating a Range Rover's ass would make more sense; or why everyone seems to have a huge bottle of really strong cough syrup in their bag when they’re not sick – there all going through some serious stuff. Sure, everyone of us goes through stuff, but doing it in the spotlight is 1000 times harder, so hard in fact that some people advocate that one must be crazy to be a true entertainer. What?! Who is saying that? You didn’t hear it here okay? Moving on. 

One such musician who is refusing to stay down is New York indie rock star Frank Palangi, who, as you may already know, was the victim of a house fire mid/late last year and is slowly but surely starting to get back on his feet and rebuilding his studio one instrument at a time with help from fans, supporters, sponsors and fellow musicians. Frank has returned to gigging regularly on StageIt, more so than ever before in fact, as many musicians have done since the advent of the pandemic. It’s keeping him close to his fast-growing loyal fanbase and drawing in new crowds, but most importantly, it's raising the funds needed to rebuild his studio. Live gigs are back, but musicians are still taking full advantage of the new and exciting entertainment avenue that is live streaming concerts. Before the pandemic, musicians only played fairly regularly online, if at all, and didn’t think much of it; however, it now seems to be quickly becoming one of the key parts of almost every musician’s career. 

After losing his recording studio in a house fire recently, Brooklyn musician Frank Palangi has been residing at a nearby New York hotel and doing what he can to get back on his feet. This week he announced another date in a series of online gigs that have been crucial in raising funds as fans and supporters rally round to help the fast-rising independent rock maestro buy near music recording, production and mixing gear, and rebuild his music studio. The Coronavirus pandemic has taken away luxuries we never knew we had, including eating fast food in a fast food restaurant really fast, the way God intended; going out at night for drinks with friends, not ninjas; and most of all, seeing our favorite artists live on stage and feeling their raw energy in person; maybe even getting a taste of their sweat if it's a really good day and all our stars are totally lined up - or wait, is that too much? Is that a weird thing to wish for? 

Luckily the pandemic didn’t take everything away, we are still able to see our favorite artists play live online. Christie Huff recently treated fans to a live stream concert with her full band, during which she performed one of her new singles, “Blow Off Steam”. They didn't get to taste her sweat but it was still pretty amazing. The concert was hosted by the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation in Los Angeles, California, USA where she’s from. After over a decade reigning sovereign as Seoul’s most highly revered fully independent electronic rock band, Love X Stereo’s following is quickly becoming nothing short of a cult following and everything they do is not just closely watched by their peers but also emulated, albeit sadly (or not so sadly) never duplicated. There can only be one Love X Stereo, and their unmistakable sound - an intoxicating blend of ‘90s electronic music and classic rock with a twist of some of the best of the new synth stuff out there; is so lowkey and humble that one could listen over and over till it almost becomes addictive and unhealthy (guilty 😳). 

Like many successful bands, the critically acclaimed South Korean duo has taken to online media as a way of supplementing or completely replacing what used to be a full gigging and touring schedule that took them to some of their region’s most prestigious clubs, concert halls and festivals, and they seem to be enjoying just as much support and clout online as they did in the real world – or wait, is the internet now the real world? Who knows anymore. But back to the sensational LXS. Hopefully by now you’ve thrown on one of your favorite albums of theirs and you are feeling like you’re souped-up off really good candy (wink, wink) by now – wait, did you say you haven't got an LXS album? What?! You’re BS-ing! Get one here now; start with “Buzzin” and never look back until you are bare feet and for some reason you can't find your socks. 

Now where were we, before being rudely interrupted by you? That was not cool. Ah yes. Love X Stereo was scheduled to play one of their most highly anticipated online gigs to date. It was special because there was a twist to it. The twist was that this time around unlike the traditional live streaming concerts with audio and video, there would be no video, just audio. Sounds exciting doesn't it? Like sex with the lights off. Wait, you don't do it with the lights on? OMG! You're just full of surprises today aren't you? 

Well sadly the gig, which was scheduled to take place on the 8th of May, last week Saturday, had to be cancelled because of technical difficulties. No other information was provided. Did DeeJayTheDog (@DeeJay_TheDog), their celebrity Labrador get the munchies and mistakenly chew up one of the cables? Or maybe she came in staggering after a late night partying with the bitches and knocked some studio gear over? Hopefully neither was the case. Lead singer Annie has just confirmed that the gig has been rescheduled for this Saturday, the 15th of May at the same time, 1 PM (Korean Time). Prior to the pandemic Frank played almost every self-respecting live music venue, concert hall and community event in New York and the East Coast of the United States; and had become a crowd favorite at local sporting events owing to his signature style of performing the national anthem. It’s hard to go from all that to nothing at all, so of course, like many successful musicians have done, he has taken his show online. On Friday, the 1st of May, Frank Palangi teamed up with a host of talented independent US rock musicians like himself for a night to remember. But as the case is with all live music events during these dire times, it wasn’t at a local live music venue where fans could taste the bass and feel the riffs blowing through their hairs - it was online. New York’s hardest to please rock music fans and fans around the world got their biggest speakers out and geared up for a good hour of deeply satisfying, no-holds-barred independent acoustic rock from Brooklyn’s finest. CONCERT IN YOUR HOUSE - MAY 9, 2020

Music industry update | Ontario, Canada | Indie artist, Crissi Cochrane

On the 28th of March, Crissi Cochrane’s virtual concert series with newly formed Ontario soul music collective, Soul City Music Co-op began, and it has taken place twice a week every week since. Featuring live original music by local musicians Crissi; her husband, Soul Brother Mike; band, The Family Soul; duo, The Bishop Boys; Brendan Scott Friel; Dane Roberts; and Madeline Doornaert, the members of the collective take turns on the microphone each week and sometimes perform together. They are bringing much joy to soul music fans in Ontario, and Canada’s soul music scene as a whole. Their next gig is on Saturday, the 9th of May at 9 PM Eastern Time.
